Hello LFM readers!
Okay, there, I've said it: I WANT A MINIVAN! Right now I drive a Toyota Corolla, and I love it! But once baby #2 comes along, I just don't see how two car seats and two adults are going to fit comfortably in it (not to mention we'll never be able to have anyone else ride with us). Brian drives a little 2-person truck, so all of us riding in there is obviously out of the question.
I'm totally NOT a van person--in fact, I'm always wondering why they're always hauling butt everywhere they go? I understand that people who drive them are most likely taxi-driving Moms rushing from place to place; but isn't that the point of a minivan? That they're driving KIDS around? They should drive a little safer, and remember the "packages" they have on board! Alright, off my soapbox.
I would like to get an SUV, but we're really wanting something with third row seating; plus I'm a short woman with back problems--those factors alone don't bode well for an SUV driver.
So we've been looking at the Honda Odyssey and the Toyota Sienna. You GOTTA LOVE the "Swagger Wagon" commercials right now by Toyota! Yes, yes, I know they've been having problems, but don't you think they'd be EXTRA careful about these new models coming out? I love all the new little gadgets and options you can get! Though I'd LOVE to hear from some of you on what you think is the best minivan out there!? Do you recommend the one you own? Why or why not? Tell me, why do you love your minivan?
So until next time, sell me on it!!

Mi Paci Es Su Paci!
Hello Lexington Family Magazine Readers!
Let me say start by prefacing this story with a little background: little MRP does not go to daycare, she is still sibling-less (at least for another 3 months or so), hasn't any cousins her own age, and is rarely around other kids unless in the church playroom on Sunday's. (I don't have many friends with kids, what can I say?)
So on a day when we DO get to have her one little friend over, she's always VERY excited to see her! She always plays well with other kids since she's fascinated by them; she lets kids take toys from her and she could care less, and she doesn't seem to understand why kids cry over toys; but on this particular day, she wasn't letting anyone push her around.
We went over to her friend's house for a play date, and while there, the little girl was having a hard time sharing and letting MRP touch anything that was "hers." The little friend was walking around saying "No, No touch MRP" and "Give back, give back," all with a pacifier permanently stuck in her mouth. This also confuses MRP, because they both have the same kind and color of paci's, (though MRP only gets hers when she's going to bed at night). The girls were playing (well, as much as her friend would let her), and something must have just struck a chord with MRP when her friend came over and took another toy from her that she had JUST picked up. So in retaliation, MRP quickly walked over to her friend and stole her precious paci straight from her mouth, stuck it into her own, about-faced and walked away as her friend stood there stunned and began to cry.
Her mother and I just looked up at each other and started rolling laughing. It was the funniest thing we'd seen in a long time! I have to admit, it made me proud of MRP. Here she is, being a good girl and trying to share and play with her non-compliant friend, when suddenly she has the last straw. :) I'm glad she stood up for herself, in her own little way.
Do your kids share well, or was it a struggle at first? I'm a little worried for when baby #2 comes and MRP has to share 24-7 with this little one. Suggestions?
Until next time, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for greater learning and understanding of sharing :)

It's TWINS!....................NOT!
Hello Lexington Family Magazine readers!
Well, the result you've all been waiting for! Many of you guessed "blue," and I think only a few of you guessed "pink." We went for our ultrasound on my birthday earlier this month (great present don't you think?) I laid there as Brian occupied MRP in her stroller, and I stared at the screen.
She pointed out the bladder, the spine, the arms, etc. No offense lady, but we really didn't care; I mean, other than to know that they were growing and developing at the rate they were supposed to, and that everything "looked fine," appeased us. She asked if we wanted to know the sex. Umm, yeah, that's why we're here! :)
As she turned on the heart-monitor-thing, she mentioned it to be 127, and that she was going to guess it was a BOY because it was so low. We agreed, and told her that's what our doctor had said as well. So she began scanning for other "parts" and next thing I know, she's pointing out the Labia. Ummmmm, BOYS don't have Labias!! Brian and I just looked at each other in disbelief. WHAT? That can't be right! We ordered a BOY! But then she went on to point out the "three lines" that are a clear recognition of girl parts. OH MY, ANOTHER ONE!
I have to admit, I cried. I sat there with tears streaming down my face as she finished up, and could probably tell I was trying to hold it all back. I was shocked, and Brian just didn't say anything at all. We left with our print out in hand. I got to the car, and bawled so hard I thought I was going to throw up. You know, that feeling where you can't breathe or speak, and that horrible sound comes from your mouth as you try to? Yeah, that was me.
I just felt for some reason that I had failed my husband. We had talked about what we were going to name him, how we were going to decorate his room, and all the fun "father-son" things they were going to do together. And in an instant, that was gone. (Note: we've already decided to only have two children, so this is it.) I just felt so horrible that he wasn't going to have those experiences, the way he did with his own father, and he'd never be able to say "Luke, I am your father."--famous Star Wars line. As I cried Brian knelt next to my car and assured me it was fine. "It's really okay, I'll just have a house full of vagina's!" he said to make me laugh. And it worked.
A couple of weeks have gone by, and I'm getting used to the idea of two girls again. At least they will always have someone to play with; tell secrets to; play dress up and tea party with, etc. I never had that experience myself since I have two older brothers (we played Kick the Can and GI Joe), so I'm excited to be a part of "sisters."
Matching Christmas dresses and bows, dolls, and dance classes, here we come!
So until next time, I guess you never REALLY know!

Pink or Blue for #2?
Hello Lexington FAMILY Magazine readers!!
Tomorrow marks 20 weeks, and Brian and I will be going for an ultrasound to find out the sex of baby #2 (with hope)!! Our doctor is betting "boy" because of the heart rate; Brian has been betting "boy" all along; I on the other hand THOUGHT "girl" until this last visit. Now I'm leaning towards "boy" as well. This pregnancy has been completely different from MRP--not AS tired (probably because I don't have TIME to be tired chasing a one year old around! or maybe I don't have time to think about how tired I am?), but feeling sick all the time. Anyone want to take a guess? I'll let you know soon!
Until next time, your guess is as good as mine!

Swallowed
Hello LFM Readers!
SO, she may, or may not have swallowed a very small metal ball!??!! MRP was playing with a bracelet, and next thing I know she snapped it and the charms and everything holding it together went flying everywhere. I quickly picked her up and put her in her activity center so she couldn't move and start picking them up. I look at my sneaky daughter as I grab the broom, and she oh-so-smoothly puts her hand up to her mouth and IN SOMETHING GOES! I couldn't tell if she was just blowing kisses, or if she ACTUALLY put something in.
I grabbed her cheeks and squeezed (the only way she'll open her mouth if she knows you want to get something out of there) and yelled for my Mom. I could see the little shiny ball between her cheek and her gum. I tried scooping it out while Mom jammed her head forward so she couldn't swallow...but alas, it was gone.
I don't know if it fell out, or if it went down :( My mother assures me she'll be fine, that the object has to be bigger to cause an actual problem and that it "will all come out in the end." So far, she's been fine the last two days. Who knows....
Have your kids ever swallowed anything crazy? What happened?
Until next time, watch out for those sneaky babies!

It DRIVES Me Insane!
Hello Lexington FAMILY Magazine readers!
Does it drive you insane as much as me? When you're in traffic and you look over to see a small child in a car, with smoking passengers? It KILLS me! They have no choice in the matter, and are forced to sit there and breathe in second-hand smoke. I think there should be a law, where the person driving, and anyone else participating in the act, should be pulled over and ticketed and/or arrested. Drastic? Perhaps, but then maybe they'll get it through their heads how horribly dangerous it is for their children to be breathing in this toxin?
And don't get me started on seeing kids in a car not buckled up, or in car seats!!
Until next time, use your head people!

Christmas was Great!
Hello LFM readers!
I hope everyone had a nice Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanza/Solstice, etc.! Ours went swimmingly.
MRP had a nice birthday party, streamers and all :) She got some great gifts (though she could've cared less about the wrapping paper, surprisingly enough). I actually think she might have been a bit overwhelmed by all the people, toys and just plain business in the house! She LOVED her cake! I was ready for her to just cram as much as possible into her mouth at one time, but she was dainty and pincered every little bit sweetly into her mouth. That's not to say she wasn't completely covered by the end, but she WAS cute!
Christmas happened for us on Christmas Eve this year, since Brian had to work the day of (yes, Lexington, SOMEONE was watching out for you! :) She barely noticed the presents, ha! We of course opened them all up for her, just one at a time with a few minutes inbetween so she could actually gauge what was going on. Funny thing: she LOVED this talking/singing Elmo I was buying in the store; so much so, she cried and cried and cried when she thought I was putting it back. Now that she HAS it, it scares the living daylights out of her! Hahaha! Poor girl; we've put it up for a while, maybe she'll like it in a month or two? Did you ever buy your child something they were deathly afraid of?
Some updates: MRP decided to crawl up the stairs the other day! Very sneakily, while "Daddy was watching her," though he was sitting at the kitchen table opening mail while Mommy washed dishes. Hmmmmm. We didn't even notice until I asked where she was, and she made this tiny little noise. Brian found her standing (OMG) at the top of our landing (note: we have hardwood floors--talking about a painful fall!) Thank God she DIDN'T fall! If you're wondering, yes, we now have a gate at the top AND bottom of the stairs! Previously we just put a cookie sheet on the bottom stair, and she never bothered it. Of course, the one time I don't put it there..she goes! Brian now calls her the NINJA!
MRP also just got her first pair of "Big Girl OUTSIDE Shoes!" She's had these cute moccasin-y ones that we put on her just for extra layering when we go out, but now that she always wants down, I thought it was time for a more sturdy pair. We went to "this store in the mall, known for KIDS shoes" and the girl was of absolutely no help. In fact, she ran to the back room to eat her lunch when we walked in; nice huh? She finally came out drinking her drink. I said "Oh, we wanted to get her sized." She looked at me and replied "Well then you'll have to take her out of the stroller." Ummm, duh. "Oh, I know," I said. "And you'll have to take her shoes off," she said again. Are you kidding me? Do I look THAT stupid to you? So, apparently there's about two pairs of shoes that actually come in her size there--weird for a "kids only" shoe store don't you think? But I guess that's how it worked: lots of variety, but only two sizes in each style: ODD. So we left with our $56 shoes in hand, after very little help--glad my Mom was here to help me at least!! Warning: the name rhymed with "Ride Tight."
Other updates: Baby #2 seems to have what my doctor is saying is a "boy heart rate." 141-143. I guess MRP at this time was 153-157. We took bets, but she's "pretty darn sure it's a boy." Brian is thrilled of course. As am I (one of each!) But I have to admit, I'm a little sad MRP won't have a little sister to play dolls or dress up with. I didn't have a sister, and I thought this would be a fun experience for both MRP and myself....? But alas, we'll find out on my birthday in January what it is for sure (hopefully).
So, until next time, I'll keep you updated!
