Hello Lexington Family Magazine Readers!
Let me say start by prefacing this story with a little background: little MRP does not go to daycare, she is still sibling-less (at least for another 3 months or so), hasn't any cousins her own age, and is rarely around other kids unless in the church playroom on Sunday's. (I don't have many friends with kids, what can I say?)
So on a day when we DO get to have her one little friend over, she's always VERY excited to see her! She always plays well with other kids since she's fascinated by them; she lets kids take toys from her and she could care less, and she doesn't seem to understand why kids cry over toys; but on this particular day, she wasn't letting anyone push her around.
We went over to her friend's house for a play date, and while there, the little girl was having a hard time sharing and letting MRP touch anything that was "hers." The little friend was walking around saying "No, No touch MRP" and "Give back, give back," all with a pacifier permanently stuck in her mouth. This also confuses MRP, because they both have the same kind and color of paci's, (though MRP only gets hers when she's going to bed at night). The girls were playing (well, as much as her friend would let her), and something must have just struck a chord with MRP when her friend came over and took another toy from her that she had JUST picked up. So in retaliation, MRP quickly walked over to her friend and stole her precious paci straight from her mouth, stuck it into her own, about-faced and walked away as her friend stood there stunned and began to cry.
Her mother and I just looked up at each other and started rolling laughing. It was the funniest thing we'd seen in a long time! I have to admit, it made me proud of MRP. Here she is, being a good girl and trying to share and play with her non-compliant friend, when suddenly she has the last straw. :) I'm glad she stood up for herself, in her own little way.
Do your kids share well, or was it a struggle at first? I'm a little worried for when baby #2 comes and MRP has to share 24-7 with this little one. Suggestions?
